Thomas Sowell PhD, is an American economist, professor, author and social theorist who is currently a Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
Sowell is controversial among leftist academics, despite his mild mannered, common sense and logical approach to all things political, societal and economical.
Nevertheless, he stands as a pillar of reason and intellect to classical liberals, Libertarians and conservatives.
With individuals like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders flooding the mainstream, Sowell's approach to, and teachings of, economics, is a ray of light through what otherwise seems to be a perpetual downpour of ideologically unsound, socialist rhetoric.
What I like about Thomas Sowell's book 'Basic Economics' is the way he writes overall-- which is 'sharp, simple and to the point.' Sowell skips the graphs, charts and economic jargon and gets to a down-to-earth, common sense explanation of what economics are, how they are studied, and their overall importance.
Moreover, Sowell keeps the book entertaining with real world accounts of how market control (centralized planning/government intervention/socialism) affects society.
Quite simply, you don't need to be an academic to understand what Sowell is writing in his book 'Basic Economics' and you absolutely will have a better understanding of economics after you read it.
As such, I believe people should encourage socialist or left-leaning individuals to read Sowell's 'Basic Economics'.
If they are as open-minded as they would have people believe they are, then the book should serve as a sort of medicine to cure them of the socialist infection that has usurped their mind.
The socialist rhetoric would soon cease to be, in any considerable amount, if people would simply take the time to learn basic economics.
