Why Guns Are Good

Why Guns Are Good

Libertarian Country |

While the liberal media propagates the idea that guns are bad and have no practical use in a civilized society, we're here to say that, when used properly, guns are good and have many benefits.

Yes, guns are good!

It's a bold statement, but we're ready to back it up. This article will cover many of the practical benefits of gun ownership and why the Second Amendment should always be supported, even if you don't own firearms.

Let's dive into the pros of owning a gun.

Guns Help Protect The Country From Foreign Invasion

Guns Help Protect Against Foreign Invasion

In 2022, just before Russia invaded Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament approved a law granting citizen ownership of automatic weapons to defend their country.

In a tweet, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, "We will give weapons to anyone who wants to defend the country. Be ready to support Ukraine in the squares of our cities."

Zelenskyy--as well as the founding fathers of the United States--understood that citizens owning guns is a benefit to national defense.

Competitive shooter, range safety officer and founder of SurvivalStoic.com, Jason Hitchcock, told us that "When the United States was formed, guns were already a big part of daily life. The founding fathers knew that if the citizens of the country had guns, other countries would think twice about invading the new country. I think that we can say this has certainly worked."

America has only suffered a few foreign invasions in the past, some of which were airstrikes. It's a safe bet that you will not see a foreign army marching across the borders of America any time soon.

While the U.S. has one of the best defense militaries on the planet, citizen gun ownership has helped to bolster security and keep our nation safe from foreign invasions over the years.

Guns Protect Citizens From Tyrannical Dictatorships

Guns Protect Against Fascist Dictatorships

The right to own guns in the United States has many practical benefits, but arguably none greater than complementing the revolutionary right to overthrow your government if it becomes corrupt.

If you don't believe me that you have that right, ask ol' Abe Lincoln and he'll tell you. In his First Inaugural Address, Abraham Lincoln said, "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or their revolutionary right to dismember, or overthrow it."

In the United States of America, we are citizens, not subjects. An armed man is a citizen, and a disarmed man is a subject. Your inalienable right to own a gun and protect yourself must forever be acknowledged by the government and protected by the U.S. Constitution otherwise we cease to be free.

With a disarmed population, the republic would soon crumble and turn into a fascist dictatorship. The propensity for democracies to disintegrate following sweeping gun bans is real and based on empirical data we've observed throughout history.

When people are disarmed, governments will likely establish authoritarian rule over them, which is why it is imperative to stay armed and vigilant.

As Hunter S. Thompson said, "Freedom is something that dies unless it is used."

Having the right to bear arms keeps the republic secure and helps protect United States citizens from government corruption and tyranny.

Gun Ownership and Firearms Training Builds Confidence

Gun Ownership Boosts Confidence

Owning guns and becoming proficient in shooting and properly handling firearms builds confidence and a positive self-image for both men and women.

Certified firearms instructor Michael Richey of Carry Texas, told us that "Firearms training can be a transformative experience. It's not just about learning to shoot; it's about building confidence. As you master the skills and knowledge required to handle a firearm safely, you start to see yourself in a new light. You're not just a gun owner; you're a responsible citizen capable of protecting yourself and your loved ones."

America needs capable men and women who can be leaders and guardians in their homes and communities. With proper training, owning a firearm can help individuals achieve the confidence and skill required to be leaders and protectors.

Mature children who wish to grow up to be leaders can get a boost of confidence by learning proper shooting and gun-handling techniques as well. They can learn respect and gain practical life skills from their parents and mentors.

Shooting guns together is also a great way to bond with your children and create lasting relationships with your family and friends.

Shooting Guns is Therapeutic and Can Relieve Stress

 Shooting Guns Relieves Stress

I wrote a detailed blog on how shooting guns is a form of therapy and meditation that you should definitely check out later, but I'll summarize it here.

Accumulating stress over time is dangerous for your health and you must have a proper outlet to destress and relieve tension otherwise your high blood pressure and hypertension could give you a heart attack and kill you.

Stress is no joke.

For some people, yoga, martial arts and chamomile tea helps them relax. For others, it's reading fiction novels by a warm fireplace. But for some, it's packing their gear and heading down to the gun range to fire off a few rounds.

And if you're like me, the combination of all three works wonders.

Guns Are Great For Protecting Vulnerable People

Guns Protect Vulnerable People

Have you ever heard the saying that guns are the great equalizer? That's because guns are the great equalizer.

When properly used, guns are excellent tools for self-defense.

Let's look at some examples.

Guns Help Protect Women

Today's society attempts to dismantle reality by suggesting women and men are the same in every way. They're not. Women are generally physically weaker than men and are more vulnerable to sexual assault and violent crime.

What chance does a small woman have to defend against a strong and capable man who is attacking her? Without a gun or other weapon, she is likely to become a victim of rape, assault or robbery.

Guns protect women and help keep them safe in a world where criminals often target them. With a gun, she can stop the crime from happening, and most of the time without firing a shot.

Criminals are cowards, in my opinion, and when you fight back with equal or greater force, they will flee in terror. Concealed carry is a good option for self-defense in public.

While it's a tragedy that society has gotten so bad that we must put the responsibility to own and carry firearms onto women, it is nevertheless smart. In a life-or-death situation, a gun can save your life and keep you from becoming a victim of a horrible crime.

Guns Help Protect The Elderly

When a person gets older it becomes more and more apparent to them that they're living in a dangerous world that no longer respects the elderly as it once did.

The sad reality is that criminals target the elderly to rob because older people usually carry cash and have less of a chance of defending themselves during a physical confrontation.

Every day, elderly people become victims of robberies. Many times these robberies happen in broad daylight while they're walking through a parking lot to get to their car after grocery shopping.

Years ago, I remember walking towards the entrance of a grocery store and seeing EMS and police everywhere. I asked somebody nearby what was going on.

They told me that an elderly man had been attacked and robbed on his way to his car. It was 3 p.m.

Not only did the criminal(s) take all of his money and some of his groceries, they beat him up and sent him to the hospital, nearly killing him.

Unfortunately, the elderly man did not have a gun on him and was unable to fight them off.

We would never blame the victim, but it pays to be alert and ready to defend yourself at all times. Unfortunately, the police cannot get there fast enough to help you in situations that require an immediate response.

Ideally, elderly people should be free to do their grocery shopping without having to carry a gun. They should be enjoying their retirement with the peace of mind that we as a society are looking out for them. But many people in our society do not care about the elderly and are not looking out for them.

Guns give those who are physically less able a fighting chance in a world gone mad.

When an elderly or physically challenged person chooses to carry a gun to protect themselves, we fully support them. Carrying a gun to protect yourself is a huge benefit for older members of society.

Guns Help Protect Minorities

A minority is a small group of people within a community, city, society, or nation who differ from the majority in race, language, religion or political affiliation, and are often discriminated against as a result of their difference.

For example, "LGBT people are nearly four times more likely than non-LGBT people to experience violent victimization, including rape, sexual assault, and aggravated or simple assault," according to a new study by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law.

Historically, racial minorities have been targeted by violent hate groups, extremists and racial separatists who pose a real threat to the peaceful sovereignty of innocent, marginalized people.

Though we tend to gravitate to cases that receive maximum publicity, any scenario in which a person is outnumbered by a majority can pose risk. Depending on your geographical location, who you are and what you believe can make you a target for violent crime

Owning guns is essential for vulnerable minorities to protect themselves, their families, loved ones, homes and property.

Guns Provide Protection During Riots and Civil Unrest

Imagine looking out of your window and seeing a horde of angry people marching down your street destroying property, looting homes and businesses, lighting cars on fire and randomly attacking and killing people without cause or justification.

In a panic, you call the police, only to find the line is busy or the operator explains that no one is available to help you. The Supreme Court has ruled that the police have no specific obligation to protect you.

This scenario is a terrifying reality that has indeed happened to numerous people in the past.

During a riot, having a gun to protect yourself and your property is a breath of life-saving air.

For example, during the Los Angeles riots in 1992, many Koreans and Asian-Americans had been killed during the arsons, looting and general mayhem in Koreatown.

Who were the Roof Koreans/Rooftop Koreans? The Crazy meme from 1992

With no police protection, Korean radio stations issued a call to arms to the thousands of Koreans living in Los Angeles, California at the time. In response to the violence and destruction of property, volunteers showed up with handguns, rifles, homemade weapons and modern "assault" rifles to defend their neighborhoods.

Koreatown was left to burn during the LA riots, and the people were charged with the task of defending and protecting their own neighborhoods. Without guns, many more innocent people may have been murdered or injured, and many more businesses may have been burned to the ground.

Whether it's a period of civil unrest, a sports riot, economic breakdown, or a zombie apocalypse, having a gun during episodes of chaos, anarchy and lawlessness can save your life.

Guns Are Good For Protection and Self-Defense

According to an OJP publication resourced with the United States Department of Justice, "Many more criminals are killed or wounded each year by armed citizens than by the police; this proves that owning a gun is possibly the most effective way to protect oneself from crime."

The anti-gun lobby and those who hold anti-gun views generally use statistics only to show cases where guns have been used in crimes or accidental injuries, but seldomly consider the number of times guns have been used to prevent crimes.

Moreover, in the abstract, there is something to consider that reports, data and statistics cannot show but is worth delving into. How many times has gun ownership prevented an attempted crime? How many times has a gun prevented a crime that was never reported?

Accounts of crime prevention as a result of gun ownership by a defender are not recorded nearly as much as incidents that involve violent crimes where guns are used by the criminal.

For example, if a person is murdered with a gun, the crime is recorded without fail.

On the other hand, if a criminal draws a gun and threatens to kill an innocent citizen, and the citizen retaliates by drawing a pistol to defend himself, causing the criminal to run away, the encounter may or may not be recorded.

While the law-abiding citizen should report the incident, there's no guarantee that they will, giving a favorable advantage to statistics exhibiting gun-related crimes opposed to prevention.

Reports and data don't give all the facts.

Whether the data gives favor to gun rights advocates or the anti-gun lobby is ultimately irrelevant, because a person has the inalienable right to defend themselves, and the constitutionally protected right to use a firearm to do so.

Guns Help Protect Against Domestic Terrorism

Guns Protect Against Domestic Terrorism

Everyone in this country has a right to live peacefully without becoming victims of political or domestic terrorism.

Mass shooters, hate groups, religious zealots and deranged individuals with vendettas are dangerous enemies who threaten the United States Republic and the country as a whole.

The old saying the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun may be a little cheesy, but it's often very true.

Michael Richey of Carry Texas walks us through a real-world example.

"Now, let's bring these points to life with a real-world example," says Michael. "Meet Elisjsha Dicken, a 22-year-old who confronted an attempted mass shooter at a mall. In just 15 seconds, Dicken fired 10 rounds at a distance of 40 yards, achieving an impressive 80% hit rate. His quick thinking and exceptional skill undoubtedly saved lives that day."

"Dicken's story is a testament to the power of firearms training. His actions have inspired the gun community to create the 'Elisjsha Dicken Challenge,' which involves firing 10 rounds at 40 yards in 15 seconds. This challenge has prompted many firearms enthusiasts to reevaluate their proficiency and strive for improvement."

Threats of terrorism are real and will always be present. Banning guns will not stop terrorism. Having capable members of society able to respond quickly to hanus acts of terrorism is a great benefit.

We tip our hats to all the good men and women out there who have taken the time to become responsible, proficient gun owners to help protect their fellow Americans.

Guns Help Protect Against Wild Animal Attacks

Guns Protect Against Wild Animal Attacks

A group of anti-gun liberals might think they hate guns until a mountain lion or a bear shows up at their campsite looking to crash their party.

While wild animal attacks are rare, they can certainly be fatal. A brown bear or a mountain lion wouldn't have much trouble dismembering a human being.

While camping in the wilderness or living in rural areas prone to wild animal encounters, it's good to have a shotgun or a rifle as a last resort for protection.

If you're a conscientious objector to hurting or killing wild animals, a gun is still useful to scare them off with a warning shot.

Guns are Good for Hunting and Conservation

Sometimes you are the hunted, other times you are the hunter. In both cases, guns can be very useful.

Humans have evolved to use tools to hunt animals for food for centuries. Without hunting, our species may not have survived.

It may be shocking to a young urbanite living in New York City, but there are people in the world who still rely on hunting to feed their families. And while spears may do the trick in many cases, guns work a heck of a lot better.

Hunting for food is a reality, and guns are an excellent tool to get the job done.

There is an ecological benefit to hunting as well. Brady Kirkpatrick, founder of GunMade.com, tells us that "hunting is an essential part of wildlife conservation efforts and sustainable living practices. Responsible hunters contribute significantly to maintaining balanced ecosystems, and guns make this possible."

Gun Manufacturing is Good For The Economy

Gun circulation in the United States is around 400 million guns. With the demand for guns increasing due to global events and the rise of crime, we can expect that number to rise or not drop significantly.

In economics, when there is a demand, the market responds by meeting that demand with supply. This interdependence is typically referred to as supply and demand.

Manufacturing the supply necessary to meet growing demands creates new jobs and opportunities for people, and has a positive effect on the economy at large.

Even when guns are manufactured in other democratic countries and traded with the United States, there is a benefit to us. Wherever there is capitalistic economic growth and prosperity, there is a potential benefit to all in the aggregate.

For more information on free markets and economics, we recommend checking out Thomas Sowell's book Basic Economics

Guns Are Enjoyable

Guns are Enjoyable

As we mentioned above, shooting guns can be very enjoyable and therapeutic. But a person does not need to ever shoot a gun to enjoy them.

Many people collect antique firearms as a hobby. Some people collect new guns--with no intention of ever shooting them--as a hobby, but this is not as common.

There were many cool and interesting guns created throughout history. Gunpowder was invented in China during the 9th century. The first proto-guns were the fire lance (10-12th century), and gun evolution has been happening ever since.

Fans of WW2 history, Civil War history, Medieval history or history in general love to get their eyes on antique firearms. Museums collect old guns all the time for a good reason; people like to see them.

A person may collect one, a few or many guns, depending on their desires and interest.

One of the great things about freedom and our constitutionally protected rights is that we do not need to explain why we want or need to possess guns. We can possess them for whatever reason we choose, so long as we do not infringe on the rights of others.

Our rights are not based on "needs." Our rights are inalienable and must always be acknowledged by the government. And we citizens must always protect and defend the Second Amendment, whether we choose to own guns or not.

Conclusion

Guns are good because they can boost your confidence and help you protect yourself, your family, loved ones, colleagues, co-workers and fellow citizens from violent crime, foreign invasion and tyranny. Beyond self-defense, guns are useful for hunters and enjoyable for collectors and hobbyists. They're also great for the economy!

Whether for self-defense or recreation, guns are powerful tools that can serve society and be a benefit when used properly and safely. It's important to understand that guns can be extremely dangerous when used improperly. They must be handled with care, experience, knowledge and, above all else, with respect.

We advise our readers who are interested in gun ownership to sign up for training courses at your local range and become proficient in using firearms to prevent accidental injury or death.

Happy shooting!
